Tim's Notes: Ontario Black Bear

Hunting Style: This is the number one place in Ontario to kill a big book bear. These are giant blacks, deep in the bush that are old from the lack of pressure. Once you arrive, you'll be set to kill a bear of a lifetime. Multiple baits, where most bears that show up have never been hunted before. The shots are close and set up for the archer or rifleman. When you see a 300 to 500 pound bear coming to a bait you'll sh*^@#$ your pants. Another great part of the hunt is the tremendous fishing and duck hunting that accompanies the hunt. You'll be real happy you've chose a place that has good fishing especially if you kill first day. Catch walleye, ringtail perch and northern pike when your not shooting ducks of bears. There are currently 30 baits being hit. Baits are maintained year round. The duck hunting is excellent with dogs provided and fully guided as well. Mallards will be the majority of your bag. Bag limits are generally double US limits. This is a 5 to 7 day hunt. This is a big bear area.

Weather: Can rain. 30 degrees to 85.

Camp: The lodge is a bed and breakfast and owned by the outfitter. It is the cozy and comfortable home of the outfitter. The cook is a little sassy!

Food: Full time cook. Four course meals at night. Sack lunch if you hunt ducks or fish all day. Hot breakfasts if you like in the morning and definitely fry some fish. Nice sleeping set up as well.

Guides: These guys know ducks and bears. They've been at it for thirty years. They love people and have a good return rate which means a lot in the bear business.

Cost: $1500 for onbe bear and lots of great fishing. Tag not included and there is a $200 deposit to book.

Success Rate: 90% shot opportunity. If you can hit a volleyball at fifteen yards, you will likely kill a bear. 50% of the bears shot make it into the book.
